Federal Matches

Once upon a time you used to see these everywhere, but since the invention of the humble lighter, they have slowly, but not completely, become less of them. Costing only a few cents years ago, they now around 50 to 80 cents, better to buy a lighter.

Before matches was Wax Vestas, a similar looking item, a bit smaller and wax coated. You could strike these on many surfaces to light them, hence the reason safety matches were invented, with a safer striker on each side of box..
Federal Match was the company that supplied NSW, and Bryant & May supplied Victoria, the makers of our famous Redheads, both were establishes in the early 1900’s.
