Aussie Meat Pies

The Aussie meat pie, Four’n Twenty, Noon Pies, Wedgewood, Mrs Macs and Patties just to name a few of our pastime favourites.

Four n Twenty is iconic in Oz and has been around since 1947. Just recently the pie brand has returned back to Australia = Home! Originally created by L. T. McClure in a small Bendigo Bakery..

An American multi-national generated outrage eight years ago when they bought the iconic Aussie company. They sold a few brands back to Australia because the company says meat pies are not desirable enough in todays more health conscious market. What a win for Australia!  Nanna’s, Wedgewood & Herbert Adams were other iconic brands that came back to our shores.

Patties Bakery, based in the Gippsland town of Bairnsdale has produced pies that is second only to Four’n Twenty in sales in Victoria, so Patties Pies now owns the famous pie brand.

Patties Bakery started in 1966 and is a family business run by six brothers, and it has a market share of about 15 per cent.

Once upon a time Australians happily bought a meat pie and flavoured milk for lunch from the corner milk bar, however now they are eating many other sorts of cuisines, searching for spicy & oriental styles. People attending the football, where many of these were consumed, have also changed their eating habits, and venues now offer a wide choice of foods than pies n chips.
