Ok, so some time back I suggested for a chip company to come out with a “Swip”, a sweet potato chip, and, lo & behold, Smith’s took on the challenge, but, they got it seriously wrong!!
Packet looked great, flavour sounded enticing, so I was excited to try them out! That’s about where it all ended for me, couldn’t even eat just a few of them!
Not sure what our favourite Mr Smith’s was thinking, but let me tell you what I was thinking! For this kind of flavour, if it were me creating it, I would of thought that an edge on one end be dipped slightly in a chocolatey icing sugar mix, and sprinkled with Desiccated coconut! The salted plain chip would have enhanced the flavour and made it something palatable, and wanting me to buy more.
Trying to create a taste from just a flavoured coating didn’t work. Now I know the production line would have to be adjusted, and there is other things to consider when marketing an Aussie icon, the Lamington, but a little more thought would have made this a winner in my honest opinion.
I saw a poll recently Where Smiths asked people on Facebook what they thought of another possible sweet alternative chip with the flavour of Fairy Bread, another Aussie icon. I think that could work, but it’s going to have to be done right.
Recently there has been many Limited Edition flavours put out by our trusted Smith’s over summer, some good, some not so good. Will try & get a write up on them soon!
I was intrigued when I saw these in the supermarket and felt I should at least give them a try . Yeah, no…definitely didn’t work for me. My eldest son was more forgiving. Didn’t love them but he thought they were ok.
Your eldest son is brave, as I tried to convince myself they were ok, the more they tasted like dirt! LOL 🙂
